At their peak production, Ryozeki Shuzo was bringing 12,000 koku (over 2 million liters) to the market, and was a well-renowned brewery beyond the boundaries of its local Akita. In the era of Heisei (1989-2019), as the sales plummeted, they developed and launched new brands, “Hanamura” and “Suigyoku.” We followed their path from the crisis of bankruptcy to producing coveted and hard-to-find brands, and explored their projected future.
