A unique sake born in the North – The challenge of a small-scale brewery that found its own way

The town of Ishidoriya in Hanamaki-shi, Iwate Prefecture, is home to the Nanbu Toji, a brewmaster guild specific to the Iwate region. Thirteen years ago, the sake brand “Yoemon” was born at Kawamura Sake Brewery in this traditional location. The passion and commitment of the president Naotaka Kawamura was met and brought into reality with a small team of just four brewers. They are dedicated to producing a rare type of sake in the extreme cold of the north, and are trying to find out how efficiently a small group of people can produce good quality sake. What is the strategy for the small brewery to survive?
