In the Taisho era, the Takeda family turned from being the town’s doctor, to a brewery. The sake brewery in Southern Kumamoto has overcome hurdles such as water quality and climatic conditions, surviving in a market dominated by shochu. Then came the Kumamoto earthquake. We trace the trajectory of Kameman Shuzo, which turned adversity into an opportunity.
